Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Capture 3D
Catherine Kim, Marketing Manager, Capture 3D, Inc

The Capture 3D family wishes you a Merry Christmas and a joyous holiday season filled with happiness, warmth and prosperity. Our hearts are filled with gratitude for your continued support and friendship. It has been another busy year for our team as we continue to experience steady growth and rising acceptance of our GOM non-contact 3D measurement technology. We are very proud of our customers and of our team.

In April, we expanded our Michigan facility’s Automation Center by adding an adjacent new building.

Capture 3D Michigan Facility Expansion

In August, we hosted our biennial Capture 3D Innovation Conference and Expo in Plymouth, Michigan which surpassed another record with over 300+ registrants. Customer talks included – General Atomics Aeronautical, General Motors, Honda, Made in Space, Rolls Royce, and more. Our next conference will be in 2018 and we hope you will join us.

Capture 3D Innovation Conference and Expo 2016

Lastly, in September we showcased the latest advancements in our GOM 3D scanning, inspection, and robotic automation technology at IMTS. Thank you to everyone that stopped by our booth.

Our yearly custom NASA Space Exploration calendars have been mailed out. If for some reason you did not receive one, please email us at

On the behalf of everyone at Capture 3D, we are excited to continue working together in the New Year.

Best wishes,

GOM Global Sheet Metal Workshops

Upcoming GOM Global Sheet Metal Workshops

3D measuring systems from GOM are used in stamping, bending, drawing, pressing, and forming process chains to guarantee consistent quality assurance: from determining the sheet metal properties, via accelerating tool-try-out and first article inspection, up to series-accompanying production control and trend analysis. With 15 countries participating, Capture 3D will hold four GOM Sheet Metal Workshops in the USA for process optimization and quality control of stamped parts.

Beginner's Guide to Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing

Video: Beginner’s Guide to GD&T Webinar

Geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) is widely used in most industries around the globe. It is an engineering language that uses a library of symbols, rules, definitions and conventions to describe the functional intention of a part using unambiguous tolerances. GD&T is used throughout all steps of the process chain from design, manufacturing, quality control, and 3D metrology.

This webinar will break down the fundamentals of GD&T workflows into easily understandable concepts. You will not only get an insight into theory basics, but also into practical evaluation steps in the GOM software.

Topics in this webinar:
- An introduction to functional tolerancing
- Drawing annotations
- Feature extraction from point clouds
- Size checks, form checks, orientation checks, datums and location checks
- Mathematics in the background
- Standards
- Product and manufacturing information (PMI)

Capture 3D Michigan Facility Expansion

Free GOM Inspect 2016 Software Download and Tutorials

GOM Inspect is free mesh processing and inspection software for dimensional analysis of 3D point clouds from structured blue/white light scanners, laser scanners, CT scanners and other measuring devices.  The software is entirely free to use and results can be shared between departments, vendors, and/or with customers for faster communication to help speed up the decision making process.  GOM Inspect 2016 contains all of the evaluation tools necessary for extensive analysis of parts and components. It is independently tested and certified by German and American national measurement laboratories (PTB, NIST). The accuracy of the evaluation software is verified by comparing the results obtained from the software with reference results. GOM Inspect has been placed in class 1, the class of the smallest deviations.
